The importance of breakfast

BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY.

But it’s true: it’s the most important meal because during breakfast our organism concludes the process of regeneration begun during the night. It’s essential, therefore, to consume it in the most correct way possible in order to obtain all the benefits:

  • accelerate the metabolism
  • obtain the energy to face the day
  • reduce the predisposition to being overweight and obesity
  • reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease

A good breakfast can have an effect on the whole day, putting us in a good mood and providing us with the energy needed for work or study.
Prepared in the right way it helps us to lose weight because the more calories we eat at breakfast, the more calories we manage to burn during the day and we will be less hungry at lunchtime.

HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR STARTING THE DAY IN THE RIGHT WAY!
  1. Put the alarm on 10 minutes earlier than usual, to give our bodies time to properly wake up.
    If in the morning we have the feeling of having a “closed stomach” it’s because we don’t give ourselves enough time to wake up.
  2. BEFORE EATING, drink a glass of hot water with lemon juice and ginger.
    This helps to complete our body’s cleaning and regeneration process and the benefits that derive from this simple habit are NUMEROUS: it helps the digestion, stimulates the immune system and re-equilibrates pH levels (lemon is a powerful alkalizing agent), it purifies the organism as it stimulates liver activity and is highly diuretic and antiseptic, only to mention a few. Coffee is ok, but not on an empty stomach, because it can cause gastric acid.
  3. After a few minutes, eat a seasonal fruit or drink an orange juice.
    On an empty stomach, fruit is digested quickly and all its properties are assimilated without problem. We are perfectly free to choose the fruit in question; the important thing is, obviously, that it’s of the current season.
    An excellent alternative is citrus fruit juice, preferably not filtered, so that you also eat the pulp which contains fibres.
  4. Finally, eat wholemeal cereals accompanied by a hot drink.
    Muesli, porridge, dry toasted bread or wholemeal bread with hazelnut or almond spread are all great options, and with regards to a hot drink, we can choose from tea (white, green…), tisanes or, finally, espresso or American coffee!
SOME EXAMPLES OF A BALANCED BREAKFAST:
  • Whole white yogurt with fresh seasonal fruit, honey, wholemeal cereals;
  • Muesli with vegetable milk (soya, rice, almonds…) and nuts;
  • Wholemeal toasted bread with salted ricotta cheese (add to the ricotta apple vinegar, extra-virgin olive oil, parsley, salt and pepper to taste) or honey;

With a breakfast like this; we won’t be hungry until lunchtime and we’ll be full of energy!
